WHO HAS ABORTIONS AND WHY?

From the most recent research, here’s what we know about who has abortions:

  • About one in four (24%) persons who can get pregnant will have an abortion by the age of 45.

  • People of all ages, races, ethnicities, parenting status, religious affiliations, sexual preferences, and gender identities have abortions.

  • The majority of abortion patients (60%) were in their twenties, 25% were in their thirties and only 12% were in their teens.

  • Of all abortion patients, 39% were white, 28% Black, 25% Hispanic, and 6% Asian or Pacific Islander.

  • Almost three-quarters of all abortion patients were low-income.

Why do people choose abortion? Financial constraints were the main reason.  Responsibility to others was another major concern.

Given this diversity of people having abortions, it’s likely everyone knows and loves someone who has had an abortion.
